Hi all,
Answers are below.
Brief programming note, you’ll notice I took last week off. New puzzle this Thursday and next, then a few guest puzzles for August.
Seventeen solo solvers and three groups submitted correct answers before the deadline.
Last week’s meta answer was that each pictured person shares a name with a runner-up (defined in various ways) of a U.S. presidential election.
A. Raymond Burr (Aaron Burr, 1800 - he lost the House’s contingent election in 1801)
B. Stephen King (Rufus King, 1816)
C. Andrew Dice Clay (Henry Clay, 1832, 1844)
D. Jane Seymour (Horatio Seymour, 1868)
E. Christina Hendricks (Thomas A. Hendricks, 1872 - he received the second-most electoral votes after electors awarded him votes that had belonged to nominee Horace Greeley, who died shortly after the election)
F. David Blaine (James G. Blaine, 1884)
G. Luke Bryan (William Jennings Bryan, 1896, 1900, 1908)
H. Sarah Jessica Parker (Alton Brooks Parker, 1904)
I. Langston Hughes (Charles Evans Hughes, 1916)
J. Olympia Dukakis (Michael Dukakis, 1988)
K. Edwin McCain (John McCain, 2008)
L. George Clinton (DeWitt Clinton, 1812; Hillary Clinton, 2016)
None of the referenced people ever became president. They were also presented (mostly) in order.
I'll be back in a few days with another meta.
